Why do basketball players get jammed fingers and what can be done to prevent this from happening?

My son is playing basketball and he gets his fingers jammed from catching the ball. Is there anything that he can do to prevent this from happening? Does this happen to most basketball players or is my son just a klutz? What can I tell him to do to get over this hurdle? Why do basketball players get jammed fingers and what can be done to prevent this from happening?
it happens to all basketball players. ALOT!!!!! I always get it. A good workout to prevent this which is what the pros do that I saw on T.V. is you get a bucket and put like a baseball or golf ball at the bottom and then fill the bucket with uncooked rice. You try to dig into the bottom of the bucket to get the ball and it is sooooooo hard to do, trust me. A lot of football and baseball players do it as well. I dont know how old your son is, but this is what a lot of pro athletes do.Why do basketball players get jammed fingers and what can be done to prevent this from happening?
Well that's easy. Several girls on my team got jammed fingers from catching the ball wrong, receiving a bad pass, of form getting whacked during a scrimage. The best thing to do it to UN-jam it!! It sounds disgusting but wait for a pop because thats a good sign, then just ice it. If it starts to bruise you might've broken it. GOOD luck!!!Why do basketball players get jammed fingers and what can be done to prevent this from happening?
It's because basketball player use their hands the whole time for passing and catching and dribbling, and shooting. It usually happens when they don't pay attention when someone is throwing it and try to have good form . It happens to everyone and you just have to let it cure by itself.
yes it happens to almost every basketball player at least once. it usually comes from catching the ball wrong. once it pops it will be ok. to prevent it practice catching with your son. just pass the ball back and fourth and he will become more efficient at it and will be less likely to jam his finger.
